Modify a scenario
Scenarios help you create what-if situations which you can then compare to your base budget.
When you save changes in a Scenario, they are saved to the scenario only, and your base budget remains as is. This enables you to analyze various assumptions without the need to copy or re-enter values.
The following table summarizes what you can and can't modify in a scenario:
Can modify | Can't modify |
---|---|
Budget line amounts |
Move (or drag-and-drop) budget lines in the budget tree |
Date range |
Change actuals data |
Shift expenses/revenues |
|
Multiply expenses/revenues |
Change budget line types |
Build a scenario based upon another scenario |
|
Add or remove budget lines |
|
Duplicate budget lines |
|
Share full and partial sections of the scenario |
Identify changes in scenarios
After you change the values of a budget group or budget line in a scenario, the following changes appear in the scenario:
-
The budget group or budget line name in the budget tree appears in blue to indicate which lines in the scenario include changes.
After you make changes to a budget line, a yellow line appears in the form view, which includes the following options:
-
See changes - Shows a list of the changes that have been made to the selected line
-
Revert changes - Enables you to revert the changes to the selected line
After you change the values of a cell in grid view in a scenario, the following changes appear in the scenario:
-
The cell and its content in a budget line with Monthly repeat bookings appear in blue to indicate the change from the working budget.
-
The entire row of a budget line with Once, Quarterly, Yearly, or Take from model repeat bookings appears in blue to indicate that the line in the scenario includes changes.
Effect of changes to the base budget on scenarios
After you create a scenario, and then make changes to the base budget, all scenarios automatically inherit the values and settings of the base budget.
If a contributor is viewing a scenario and the budget owner makes a change to the base budget, the contributor immediately sees the change in the scenario.
