Budget structure guidelines
To help you create a budget structure that is relevant to your company, follow these guidelines:
Guideline | Description |
---|---|
Keep your management structure in mind |
If your company manages its revenues by department, structure your budget by Department at the top level. For example, if your revenue is only organized by Location in Intacct, and you structure your budget by Department, your budget could come out with blank budget lines. |
Avoid over grouping |
Each dimension group creates more budget lines. The maximum recommended budget size is approximately 3000 budget lines, and anything above can cause performance issues. |
Match your budget structure to the actuals that you import in Step 8 - Populate your data |
Each transaction that you import into Planning must have at least a top level dimension value. For example, if you structure your budget by Location and then by Department, the transactions must have a Location value. For more information and examples, see Where are imported transactions placed in the budget structure? |
Budget structure rules
The following table lists rules for setting up your budget structure:
Rule | Description |
---|---|
Budget groups hierarchies are up to four levels |
Do one of the following:
|
After you use a dimension at the top level, you can't use it again in the same budget group hierarchy |
You can’t build your company budget by Location, and then build your budget groups within the company by Location again. You can, however, use the sub location dimension in the budget group level, if one exists, or another dimension, such as Department. |
