Grid entry view overview
One of the most valuable features of working with and managing your budget is the ability to make simple data adjustments quickly. The grid entry view in SIP has the familiar “look and feel” of a spreadsheet that makes entering data easy and lets you view more of your data at once. You can alternate between the SIP form view and grid entry view, while still benefitting from the advantages of using the SIP budget tree hierarchy and working with scenarios.
Switch to the grid entry view
To switch to the grid entry view, and also to easily toggle between the grid and form views, click the Grid Entry switch in the upper right-hand corner.
Working in the grid view
The grid entry view displays your budget in a familiar spreadsheet-like format, enabling you to see many budget lines at once. The budget lines are shown with a white or grey background.
Simple updates can be carried out in the white cells by double-clicking a cell and entering a number. Note that these updates need to be done from the P&L view. The grid Cash view is read-only.
Other white budget line field updates and all grey budget line updates are done from a flyout window displaying the form view which opens when you double-click the budget line in the tree.
The following budget lines are displayed with white cells and quick entry is enabled:
Note that in the following circumstances the calculations are more advanced, therefore, these budget lines are also displayed with grey cells and quick entry is not enabled.
The budget line date range is shorter than the full budget date range which can be found in the budget Settings. The months in the budget line’s date range are white and the other months are grey and not editable.
The budget line uses split dimensions.
The budget line has advanced options enabled.
Update your budget directly from the grid entry view
Edit values in a white cell:
Double-click on the white cell, enter a number value, and press enter. The cell and any other cells affected by this edit are updated. Loading data may take a moment. An orange loading bar appears at the top of the screen as the data aggregation is being calculated.
Some notes about entering data from the Grid view.
Only number values, decimal points (.) and negative amounts (-) are valid entries.
Revenues with negative amounts (-) are automatically changed to a Revenue Adjustment type. Expenses with negative amounts (-) are automatically changed to an Expense Adjustment type.
If the payment Spread of a budget line is Same amount each billing and you update a specific month in the grid view, the spread automatically changes to Different amount each billing.
Edit other white and all grey line fields:
From the budget tree, double-click on the relevant budget line. A flyout window opens displaying the form view of the current budget line for you to edit and update. The fields in each form vary according to each budget line type.
Update the fields as needed. As you update the form, numbers in the grid update too.
To extend the flyout screen and see more of the form without scrolling, click on the upper arrow on the edge of the screen. To reduce the flyout screen, click on the arrow again.
To close the flyout and return to the grid, click Cancel, Undo changes or Save now.
Filter and customize the data view
Fine-tune what you see by using the format and filter dropdown lists on top of the grid.
Grid display formats
Set the grid display according to these formats:
P&L / Cash
Monthly / Quarterly / Yearly
The currencies that have been defined in the budget Settings.
Numbers / Thousands / Millions
Set the grid filters
Filter according to the accounts and dimensions used in the budget. The grid then displays only the lines that match your filter criteria.
Customize the menus view
Customize your view by hiding some of the menus that you are not using. Click the eye icon and select to clear the different format and filter lists. To close the list, click the eye icon again.
📝 The P&L/Cash dropdown cannot be hidden.
📝 When you set a dimension filter, it continues to apply to the Dashboard and Sheets tabs. Alternatively, this is not the case when you set the Accounts filter and any of the format options. For example, let’s say you have a Location filter set to New York and the Currency format set to EUR. When you switch to either of the Dashboard and Sheets tabs, the view is filtered by Location = New York (since it is a dimension), but the currency defaults to the budget base currency.
Copy and paste your data
As with all spreadsheets, the grid view supports the essential copy, cut, and paste feature. Copy or cut data from either Excel or SIP white cells, or copy from the SIP grey cells, and paste the data into the relevant editable white cells.
📝 Data cannot be pasted into multiple budget lines simultaneously. Update one budget line at a time.
Use either the standard CTRL commands (CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and CTRL-V) or right-click on the cell and select an action (Copy, Cut,and Paste)from the menu. The first time you use the right-click menu, you may be alerted by your browser to allow SIP to use the clipboard.
📝 If the right-click menu is not working, it may be one of the following issues:
Add-ons such as Grammarly and LastPass do not allow pasting from SIP. If you need these add-ons, then use the CTRL commands (CTRL-C, CTRL-X, and CTRL-V).
Your browser’s settings are not allowing SIP to use the clipboard. See Modify browser clipboard settings.
Modify browser clipboard settings
If the right-click menu copy/cut/paste actions are not working, your browser may be blocking SIP from using your clipboard. To solve this, simply change the browser settings to allow the app.intacct-planning.com site to use the clipboard. While the steps to do this vary between the different browser types and versions, we recommend you do the following:
Open your browser Settings.
Search for Clipboard.
Set the app.intacct-planning.com site to be allowed to use the clipboard.
